Who Am I and What Is This Site About?

Hey!  I am Becca Cortez and I originally started this journey because I was tired of looking in the mirror and not totally loving my body. This is my journal of the all too common weight-loss battle, written in a fun, upbeat and most of all encouraging fashion.  I began in January 2011, stopped 3 months later due to a major derailing of sorts because of some major family drama (you can read a post about it here).

I have recently been re-awakened out of my zombie stuper of thinking "what's the point" or "it's too late for me now" or "I tried before and failed" or "I'll never look like I use to anyway" and the list goes on.  I am finally recognizing my biggest enemy in the battle of the bulge really is....MY MIND!  You see, the thoughts I think directly effect the actions I take (or don't take!).

The Name: The 52 Club
No, it's not for people 52 or older! ;)  I was trying to help myself overcome the issue of thinking my body was too far gone.  You know, it feels too overwhelming to lose 30 pounds and so you give up even trying?  Well, I got to thinking, what if I just concentrate on one pound at a time, one week at a time.  Then I thought to myself, hey - there are 52 weeks in a year.  If I were to start today and lose just one pound a week, in 52 weeks (that's one year) I'd be 52 pounds lighter! Somehow, breaking it down in little bitty steps seemed more attainable and it motivated me to give it a go.  I called my sis, ran it by her and the rest as they say is history!  The 52 Club it is!

Why Am I Blogging?

I am blogging because I love to write, I want to be able to track my progress and I love encouraging and inspiring other people!  I would recommend reading my very first post on this site that began in Jan 2011.  You can read it here.  It will literally fill you in on my mindset at the time and my motivation.  If you have time, go through all the posts and see if you find the information encouraging or helpful.  As I mentioned, I LOVE to encourage others and myself, too!  So, if you need encourgement I'd love to share my journey with you.  I think when we are transparent and vulnerable with one another we open up the big hose of God's grace where it can flow more freely. And I am certain that we all need more of his grace.  I know I sure do!

THE BIG GOAL:  Taking our bodies back, one pound at a time!

My hubby has told me several times, "Bec, you didn't gain this weight overnight and you won't lose it overnight." And you know, he's absolutely right!  So, this blog is about the long term goal of getting back in shape, slowly, one pound at a time.  And for some of you out there, it may be about being in shape for the first time.  Either way, it is a journey and if we encourge one another in the smaller and daily battles, we are more likley to accomplish our utlimate long term goal. Whether you need to lose 10 pounds, 20 pounds, or 100 pounds, almost everyone needs to be encouraged that they can do it!   Let's take our bodies back together, what do you say?  I really think the more the merrier.  And if any of us slip or fall down, we can encourage one another to get back up.  Leave comments, share your own battle and for goodness sake, please share your victories too!  You could be used to actually help someone else reading.
